Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a student. It brings to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community the accomplishments of students who possess outstanding scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Membership is an honor conveyed upon students; it is not a right earned. The four ideals that are used for selection to the NHS are scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student — one who excels in all of these areas. To be eligible for membership in this group, a student must be a sophomore or junior who has been in attendance at Antioch Community High School or Lakes Community High School the equivalent of at least one semester. Nominated students receive a letter of invitation based on their cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Interested students must then attend a mandatory informational meeting, and submit the required forms and essay for review prior to the deadline. In preparation of receiving a letter of invitation to the National Honor Society, candidates are encouraged to put forth every effort in the classroom, co -curricular activities, and the community.
